Welcome to our American Literature BlogPortal!

famtree.jpgOur Classroom BlogPortal consists of two layers. This is the first layer. On our homepage students will find other student's entries as well as news and comments from the teacher.

About Our Project

Students are blogging as a character given them during the third week of school.  This character came to America planning to build a life, possibly to escape another, and not always by choice; some names are real and others are invented.  All background stories are fictional, with some elements of truth behind them.  The students are to take their character through the course of time, journaling as that character, and then their decendents as we proceed through the literature of America, and therefore its very rich history.  In this way, students will connect to the literature they are surveying, and gain an understanding of how American families have made their way through this country to result in the rich cultural tapestry that each of us is a part of today.

In addition to the character blogs, students will be completing a class presentation to conclude each 5 - 6 week unit in the course.  This presentation will be of their newly invented (and carefully researched) character, with an explanation of how they came to be the decendent of the previous character, their current situation, location, etc., accompanied by some sort of visual relating to that experience.

I anticipate that these projects will become quite rich as the year progresses, with some of the characters taking on a whole life of their own!

Welcome to our class blogs.  Welcome to America.
